Similarly, I am inspired to wonder, “what is the saliency of what we are learning in Ground School on airmanship (air"person"ship?) and actual flying in airplanes?”
I know logically, of course, that there is an impact. But it would appear that our current instructor, the MET performer extraordinaire, is loathe to actually have us apply anything! He insists on playing exclusively with Bloom's recall rather than wandering into the higher levels of the taxonomy.
Specifically, I would love to see and discuss video footage of plane performance in different weather conditions, or analyse in small groups a METAR report. When anyone asks for this sort of practical application of what he is “teaching” us, however, he looks at us like we are from outer space. He is concerned with "getting through" his slides, rather than whether anything in the slides is actually adhering to our brains!!
I suppose he is disappointed that his polished PPT performance is not awe-inspiring enough for us.
Thursday night is the final evening of MET. Our instructor has agreed to let us online to decifer a METAR and TAF. I am eager to experience this miraculous event; you can count on a report Friday morning!
