August 30, 2011 - Back at CYTZ
After flying (and not studying!!) in PEI for over a month, it was good to be back at my "home" airport. Korkka and I managed to squeeze in a review of turns, slow flight and stalls high over the water local east near Pickering before the lights went off and it was time to head back to the airport.
A few things to remember for practising and flight exam...
1. Upon take off, point or say out loud that I am checking to see that AS is alive, pressure and temp are in the green
2. Always make an exagerated effort to look before turning, so the examiner knows you are in fact looking (Ditto for the HAZEL check prior to upper air exercises)
3. Stalls: don't lose too much ALT; recover immediately upon stalling. Also, control turning with rudder (as in slow flight)
4. Steep turns -- learn combined effect of attitude (change in yoke pressure) and bank.... I am pretty good at turns, just need to work out the finer details.
Flying and controlling AS, ALT and heading simultaneously -- haha -- forgot all that!! So good to be back in a 150 though. Also, taking off 26 with the CNE lights to my right was a colourful experience; landing in the almost dark was pretty, too.
Here's hoping for a sudden influx of unexpected funding so I can get back to some serious lessons over the next few weeks and hopefully solo in the practise area soon!!!
