May 27, 2011 - 172 with Photos!
Rain, rain and more rain, and then a trip to PEI interrupted my flying these past weeks, so I was itching to get back up this afternoon. Unfortunately, low ceilings made for marginal VFR. The real downer was that I had a friend staying with me who had been hoping to get a little tour of the hangar and such.
We decided to head down to the airport anyway, and in the end, Lari offered to take us up in a 172 for a few circuits while the ceilings were sort of high enough. I figured any plane was better than no plane, so I consented. My friend Joel had never been in a small plane before, and he took photos and videos while I flew the plane under Lari's guidance. I had never been in a 172 before and noticed some differences: First of all, the attitude for best rate of climb was a bit more nose down than in a 150. Also, the 172 climbs faster than the 150, even loaded down with three people! And it really floats in the flare -- almost easier to land this puppy than the 150... or maybe it was just that there was almost no wind, hehe. There are also a lot more buttons in a 172, and, guess what? No carb heat!! :)))
