A Few Ground Lessons - November, 2010
Poor Lari.
It must be incredibly monotonous to teach the same thing over and over, especially to someone so stupid! And on the ground, even worse!
As the weather becomes more unpredictable and the late afternoons darker, my "flight" lessons are increasingly grounded. Even if I rush down after work, I arrive at the airport after dusk, so VFR is not a possibility. And when I do manage to book a daytime or weekend lesson, the wind and weather seem to not want to cooperate. So, we use our time on the ground to review material and introduce new concepts, which we hope to practise at some point.
RANGE AND ENDURANCE - Monday Nov 22
After Lari introduced Range and Endurance (and I suddenly understood the hitherto incomprehensible graph in that chapter of my FTM), we tried our luck with the flight simulator. Severl people had warned me that it was a waste of money, and not at all realistic. Ever the optimist, I was hopeful that this would be an opportunity to isolate certain "issues" I was having and -- like a piece of music -- practice just a few "bars" so I could put it into context next time I was playing the whole concerto!!!
Alas, my advisors had been correct: The flight simulator is crap. Too bad.
Friday Nov 26
Actually would have been able to fly before dusk, but the winds were too, well, windy. So, we focussed on the POH instead, and I got some of my questions answered. We also practised some radio calls.
I am feeling rather discouraged, because I feel like there is so much to learn, and I don't really have the time or the money to pursue this adequately. Will God make a way?
Monday Nov 29
Coming soon... With any luck, a review of radio com and also a walk around/pre-flight inspection in the hangar.
