March 5, 2011 - Pre-Solo and Cross Wind Review
Rain, rain and more rain.
Will I ever get enough close- proximity airtime to actually solidify and develop my skills so that I can progress to the point of soloing? Arrggh!
Despite the rain I elected to keep my lesson slot this afternoon, so that I could do a ground brief. I needed some "talking through" of cross wind landings, which we practised using a model. That was helpful, and I should review it in my mind sometime today. Also talked some more about cross wind componant, which was mathematically intrriguing, and which I also will need to review... AND, we spent some time reviewing the "right" answers to the school's pre-solo circuit written test (all multiple choice). On that last point, I could write a treatese alas it would be so negative I think my head would explode if I succumbed to it. Suffice it to say that as one of my former GS mates emailed me last week (before I wrote the test), "Vera, some of the questions are nebulously worded. You're going to have a teaching fit!" (I did.)
I took a friend with me to the Airport today. He is interested in aviation but doesn't "get out" much, so I though it might feed him a bit to be close up to some real planes. He seemed to enjoy his tour of the hanger thanks to the friendly folks at Island Air. But I imagine sitting around doing his ESL homework while I had an hour-long ground brief was probably pretty boring. Oh well.
I NEED real practise in the circuit... just a little bit more... Maybe I'll be able to squeeze in a lesson sometime this week... Praying for weather and work schedule to align... As of 4 a.m. this morning, I also have a really sick kid, so the whole thing could be shot to shit. Two steps forward, one step back.
If nothing else, learning to fly is forcing me to be a more patient person, lol!
