Although previous Ground School evenings have not been a display of stellar teaching, the instructors at least posed no serious emotional harm or undue hardship. Tonight’s guy was the worst ground school instructor I've ever encountered!
Not only was he a lousy teacher (little or no wait time, incessant use of unexplained acronyms and inane presupposition of way more knowledge than most of us came with), this guy was also arrogant and extremely unprofessional. I’m not sure what was more off-putting, his obvious boredom with the task of teaching the class this evening or his frequent laughing and making faces with a colleague outside. In any case, these two factors coupled with his uninviting questioning techniques ensured complete downshifting of most of our brains (save perhaps those few students in the class who had already flown excessively), so that we effectively absorbed nothing of the evening’s material.
If my recommendation of Island Air flight school were based on tonight’s shitty teaching experience, it would be scathing. Fortunately, two of the other ground school instructors have been at least friendly, if not great teachers. And my flight instructors have been knowledgeable and professional, happy to answer my many, many questions.
