Setting up for an approach is a little bit like playing a game of billiards. When playing pool, you have to observe the alignment of the balls and then approach the white ball in such a way that the angle with which it hits the desired ball will cause said ball to go into the pocket. Similarly, when preparing to land a plane, all kinds of other factors have to be taken into consideration when manipulating a given situation in order to line up an approach such that the plane will settle and land at precisely the planned upon point.
